How’s Your Website Ranking? If it’s not at least on page one, Google says you don’t exist. There are ways you can get further up that ranking list, and it doesn’t have to cost you a single buck, but you do have to invest some time in it. In the Simply Print June 2017 Newsletter, we investigate ways to get to that wonderful place they call page one.

Here are the top five ways to increase your website’s ranking:

1. Publish relevant content

Quality content is the number one driver of your search engine rankings and there is no substitute for great content. Quality content created specifically for your intended user increases site traffic, which improves your site’s authority and relevance.

Identify a keyword phrase for each page. Think about how your reader might search for that page. Then, repeat this phrase several times throughout the page—once or twice in the opening and closing paragraphs, and two to four more times throughout the remaining content. Not too much though. If it looks out of place or doesn’t read correctly Google will be on to you!

2. Update your content regularly

Search engines on quality content. Regularly updated quality content is viewed as one of the best indicators of a site’s relevancy, so be sure to keep it fresh and inviting.

3. Metadata

When designing your website, each page contains a space between thetags to insert metadata, or information about the contents of your page. Make sure you have metadata to help Google see what your page is about.

4. Have a link-worthy site

Focus on creating relevant links within your text. Instead of having “click here” links, try writing out the name of the destination. The words “Click here” have absolutely no search engine value beyond the attached URL, whereas keywords will potentially improve your search engine rankings as well as the ranking of the page you are linking to.

5. Use alt tags

Always describe your visual and video media using alt tags, or alternative text descriptions. They allow search engines to locate your page, which is crucial—especially for those who use text-only browsers.

These are only a few of the many methods for improving your search engine ranking. Remember, the time you put in to improve your Google ranking is an investment in your business, so don’t ever think it’s wasted. The internet is the number one way that your clients will find you, so a good Google ranking could pay dividends.

NFC business cards

NFC (Near Field Technology) is supposed to be the next big thing in business card technology. Each card has a tiny chip, and a tap on your smart phone is all it takes to perform functions such as launch a video or website, or phone you direct, or perhaps set up an email message. We’ve been following the progress of this new technology closely since its introduction. If you’d like to see how NFC business cards work, call in with your smart phone and we’ll show you. Unfortunately NFC is not yet supported by iPhones, which unfortunately is a major negative for the developers. NFC has many benefits beyond business cards including NFC wrist bands for children and the elderly so the sooner Apple gets on board the better.

New Website

Talking of websites, if you come here regular, you’ll notice that we’ve updated our website to give it a fresh new look. We really love WordPress. It’s made the job of converting to a new theme a lot easier than if we’d started from scratch. That’s because all of the content was already in place. We just had to change the colours and text to suit the style of the new site and add some fresh new images. Our newsletters and blogs are also more visually organised with thumbnail images, making it easier for our customers to navigate. Also check out our new look FAQ’s and Services page. At the time of writing this newsletter, we’ve taken a bit of a hit with our Google ranking and this is sometimes the case when you upgrade your website. We just need to be patient and let Google eventually do its indexing thing, and we’ll be back to the top page one in no time.
