Hope you’ve all recovered from Christmas and New Year celebrations and like us are back into it for another year. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always loved the week before Christmas and always feel a bit sad when New Year comes around and it’s so long until Christmas again. We always pack up the Christmas tree and lights at our house with many sighs. Oh well, we won’t dwell on that, rather I look to 2012 with positivity and enthusiasm. Anyway time is again going fast, with one month down and February here already. One down, eleven to go.

Celebrating Ten Years.

Last year on 15th December Simply Print was officially ten years young. We marked the occasion by forcing the members of the Noosa Business Group to wear party hats and eat home made cup cakes. I hope the next ten years are as exciting and rewarding as the first. We wouldn’t still be here without the loyal support of our wonderful clients, so a big thank you.

Google+. Will It Rival Facebook?

We all know the impact Facebook has had on our daily lives. If not, where have you been? Let’s face it, most people these days have a Facebook page either personally or for their business (or both). The social media bandwagon shows no signs of slowing and Google acknowledges this and has launched (rather belatedly) its own social media network called Google+ which the experts are saying will overtake Facebook as the preferred social network site. I think Facebook might have something to say about that. Anyway, I took the time to set up a Simply Print Google+ business page and I’m pretty impressed with it, although it was a bit daunting at first. This is because Google has in no way copied the Facebook idea. Instead, they’ve created something totally different. The biggest difference is the section called “Circles” which allows the user to break up their friends into various categories which Google claims makes it easier to interact and connect. The whole system is still in its infancy, so I guess we’ll see a lot of changes over the coming months. Why not check it out for yourself.

Best Place In The World.

I know there is a lot of negativity flying around at the moment. Everything from the state of the economy, the rising cost of living and our under-performing and over-paid politicians, which is being reported constantly in the media. It’s really easy to get depressed and with two elections due this year, sometimes I wish they provided a “none of the above” box to tick. However, on Australia Day, even with the rainy weather, I couldn’t help but marvel at this amazing country we live in. Everywhere you looked people were proudly dressed in their Aussie gear and cars zoomed by with Aussie flags flying. Any problems we have in Australia really pale into insignificance when you look at the issues people are faced with overseas. I’m convinced that we are the envy of the rest of the world, and I’m so very grateful to live here.

Well here we go again for another year. We had a nice break but we’re now back into it for 2012. I guarantee I’ll blink and it’ll be Christmas again. Hope you had a nice festive season and saw in the New Year in style. I actually fell asleep at about 10 o’clock in front of a Die Hard DVD and woke up when the fireworks went off at midnight. No doubt about it, I’m a party animal. Actually I did nothing basically from Christmas day on, and mowing the lawn was probably my most strenuous duty. Unfortunately, I always seem to eat a lot more over the Christmas break and I’ll be walking for months to get off those extra kilos.

Simply Print is 10.

As mentioned last month ….. I mean year …… Simply Print was officially 10 years old on 7th December. That was the day the name Simply Print was registered. On 12th January we opened the doors at Peregian Beach for the very first time. Anyone who starts a new business understands how hard it is. We had a crane truck backing up traffic installing the presses and then we painted the walls ourselves to save a bit of money. We were lucky that the printer I worked for was in our shop previously, so we had the benefit of existing clients who knew us. I dug out our old records and Simply Print’s very first job was 5,000 stickers for a company called Sunshine Sweets.  Today we’re up to job number 7,286 and have over 1,000 clients on file, many of them interstate. Really looking forward to the next 10 years with positivity and enthusiasm.

New Business Card Designs.

To mark our ten year anniversary, we’ve designed a few new business cards. We got a bit tired of the old card so we’ve revamped it. One of them is in the theme of our website and the other one looks a lot like a Google search engine. Next time you’re around Noosaville, why not call in and have a look. I can’t believe this is the last newsletter for 2011. I keep saying this year has just flown by and my kids tell me that this just proves how old I’m getting. You can always count on your children for a dose of blatant honesty. Our youngest child Grant works in K Mart and he reckons he knows why they call it the silly season with customers getting rather heated and stressed in the relentless pursuit of a bargain. Last week a lady started abusing the person in front because she was talking to Grant and taking too long. Before long, a heated and abusive argument started with security having to remove the two from the store. A few days later, another lady yelled at Grant for asking to check her bag. It sort of makes you laugh, but I just wonder what message this sends to our children. My advise is if you feel like going into “Christmas Overload”, take a few breaths, count to 10 and go have a coffee. You’ll feel much better. Talking of the years flying by, Simply Print turns 10 years old on 7th December. Things have certainly changed in 10 years with technology moving at an incredible pace. We’ve certainly achieved a lot and made some great friends along the way. This is an important milestone and we couldn’t make it without our loyal clients so a big thank you.

Our Christmas Hibernation.

Not unlike most business people, the only break we get all year is at Christmas time. We call it our “Christmas Hibernation”, where Brad, myself and the family veg out for a week or three doing very little so we can re-charge our batteries for the new year. I can’t believe that Christmas is just around the corner again. Where has 2011 gone? The year has just flown by and I hope it’s been good for you.

We’ve just received the 2011 Charity Christmas Card catalogue and there are some great new designs available this year, which you can view by clicking the Xmas Cards link. Each year we like to support Charity Christmas Cards because not only do you get a professionally printed product, but 10% of the card cost is donated to various charities. This year the beneficiaries are the Heart Foundation, Children’s Cancer Institute and the National Breast Cancer Foundation. If you have a charity close to your heart, you simply choose a card which supports that particular charity. Stocks always run out really quick due to their popularity, so don’t leave it too late to order. Each year around November, I receive an email from the manufacturer almost every day, advising that another card design had sold out. By December there are usually only about three or four styles left in stock.

Dealing With The Lowest Bidder.

In the past I’ve often talked about the dangers of dealing with the lowest bidder, which is something I never do. The problem in business is it’s impossible to pay a little and get a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, you have to allow more money for the risk you take, and if you do that you might as well pay for something better. This rule applies to online printers who are offering business cards for as low as $20. We recently had 500 business cards printed by Vista Print. I was told that it would be printed on 300 gsm card, but the card I got was lucky to be 150 gsm. It’s smaller than standard size, and by the details on the card, no human ever saw it until it was dispatched. Call in if you’d like to see what we received. It was worth $20 just for the giggle.
